DIX HILLS, NY—A dumpster fire started at Signal Hill Elementary School on Saturday night around 11:15, per P.I.O. Steve Silverman.

The Dix Hills Fire Department managed to douse the fire before it extended to the building. Three engines, an ambulance and paramedic unit were dispatched under the direction of Chief Alan Berkowitz.

Signal Hill Elementary School, on Caledonia Road, is under the Half Hollow Hills Central School District.
