EDUCATIONAL BUS TRANSPORTATION DRIVER GEOFFREY ROAN TAKES FIRST PLACE AT NYS SCHOOL BUS SAFETY COMPETITION

More than 130 drivers competed

Geoffrey Roan, a school bus driver with Educational Bus Transportation, won first place honors at the 45th Annual New York State School Bus Safety Competition held in Rockland County, New York, on May 21. Roan, who competed in the small bus/van category, is now eligible to compete in the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) International School Bus Safety Competition in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 16 and 17. More than 130 drivers competed in the recent safety competition.

“All of us at Educational Bus Transportation are extremely proud of Geoffrey’s first place win,” said Educational Bus Transportation President Sean Corr. “Geoffrey personifies what we look for in a driver — enthusiasm and professionalism backed by a strong commitment to safety. We are honored to have him as a driver and I know the students on his route will be happy to learn Geoffrey is a first-place safety winner.”

According to Michael Martucci, New York School Bus Contractors Association President, the school bus safety competition is the largest and only statewide competition in New York State. The day begins with a comprehensive written exam on school bus safety followed by a driver’s test that gauges skills with a variety of hands-on activities, including vehicle inspections, loading and unloading students, operating a school bus through various driving courses, and managing railroad crossings.

Serving Long Island’s Copiague, Massapequa, Amityville and Half Hollow Hills School Districts, Educational Bus Transportation is a member company of The Trans Group, which operates over 1,200 school and public transit buses in lower New York State and Long Island.
