Elderly Woman Hospitalized From Dix Hills House Fire

An elderly woman was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in her Dix Hills home on Sunday night.

According to fire officials, about 70 Dix Hills firefighters responded to the Grey Birch Court home to find an active fire in the attic and the below den at 7:40 p.m.

Crews aggressively attacked the smokey blaze and had it under control within 20 minutes.

The elderly resident was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Huntington Town Fire Marshal and Suffolk Police Arson Squad are investigating the cause of the fire.

Firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene with six trucks, four ambulances, rehab and paramedic units.

The Huntington Manor and Melville fire departments also assisted at the scene while Greenlawn firefighters and Commack ambulance crews provided standby coverage during the alarm. Also activated to respond was the Huntington Cyanide Response Team of paramedics from Dix Hills, Greenlawn, and East Northport fire departments and Commack Ambulance corps.

All units were under the direction of Chief Tom Napolitano and Assistant Chiefs Joe Williamson and Brett Tepe.
