Firefighters Battle Dix Hills House Fire in Dress Uniforms

The firefighters attended a department ceremony before responding to the blaze Sunday afternoon, fire officials say.

Firefighters leaving a ceremony still in their dress uniforms went to battle a Dix Hills house fire Sunday afternoon.

According to fire officials, about 65 Dix Hills firefighters responded to the Colby Drive residence at about 12:35 p.m. and battled the blaze located inside the rear walls that spread from the home's fireplace.

The blaze was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the Huntington Town Fire Marshal.

The firefighters, six trucks and four ambulances were led by Chief Tom Napolitano and Assistant Chiefs Alan Berkowitz, Joe Williamson and Brett Tepe. The Melville and Greenlawn fire departments, which were standing by at Dix Hills during the ceremony, also assisted with an engine and an ambulance.

The event was the Annual Inspection Ceremony for the new officers of the Dix Hills Fire Department.
