Firefighters Battle Minivan Blaze In Dix Hills [VIDEO]

The firefighters battled a minivan fire that became more intense after the vehicle's gas tank ruptured on Wednesday night in Dix Hills.

According to fire officials, about 25 Dix Hills fire and rescue personnel responded to a minivan that was on fire in the northbound lanes of Deer Park Avenue, near the Long Island Expressway's South Service Road, at 9:50 p.m.

The gas tank on the minivan burned through and ruptured, which intensified the fire and spilled gasoline onto the roadway and a nearby storm drain, officials say.

Firefighters were able to quickly get the blaze under control and the northbound lanes of Deer Park Avenue were closed while responders cleaned up the spill.

The occupants were able to escape from the vehicle and no injuries were reported.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded with three trucks and two ambulances, which were led by Chief Tom Napolitano and Assistant Chiefs Joe Williamson and Brett Tepe.

New York State DEC and Huntington Harbormaster spill response were notified to respond to the scene.
