A green laser was pointed at a plane flying near Farmingdale Thursday night, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.
Powerful lasers can temporarily blind pilots who have the lives hundreds of passengers in their hands, according to the FAA.
The aircraft was flying at 8,000 feet about four miles northwest of Farmingdale when it was illuminated by a green laser between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
According to the FAA, aiming a laser at an aircraft is a serious safety risk that violates federal law.

Another plane was illuminated by a green laser about 14 miles southwest of John F. Kennedy International Airport around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, the FAA reports. There were no injuries.
The FAA reported 3,894 laser-related incidents in 2014, including 41 at LaGuardia airport and 19 at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
