Hills East Boys Basketball Defeats Commack

Hoops team starts season with four consecutive wins.

 won their fourth non-league game in a row with a 57-48 victory against Commack on Tuesday.  They took control of the game in the second quarter, and continued their domination for the third and fourth quarter.  Their rebounding, steals and fast breaks are what kept them in control. Hills East had a 16-point lead over Commack at the end of the third quarter, and held off a rally for the victory.

Heroes: Senior Mike Addae scored a team-high 10 points, and senior Billy Wesnofske scored 9 points. Sophomore scored 6 points and made 8 rebounds.

Turning Point: The first quarter ended with Hills East up 10-8, and it looked like the game could go either way. The second quarter was where Hills East began to take control over Commack, going into halftime up 25-17. From that point on, Commack was held back by Hills East defensively, and couldn't keep up with their strong passing and turnovers.

Quote: Hills East head coach Peter Basel said, "This was a challenge for the kids. We lost to Commack last year, so we tried to get some motivating factors in our playing, and it paid off. We played with a lot more intensity tonight."

Bottom Line: Hills East is a team to keep your eye on as the season continues. They work well together as a team, and are lead by a passionate and effective coach and assistant coach.
