Hills East Softball Drops to Smithtown West
Lady Thunderbirds will try to get back in the win column Tuesday afternoon.
The Hills East varsity softball team will look to get back on the winning track Tuesday afternoon after a tough defeat to Smithtown West last Friday.
The Lady Thunderbirds lost to Smithtown 15-1 during the contest at .
Smithtown took control and never let go. After the first inning, they were up 5-0. Hills East scored their one and only run of the game in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Megan O'Shea hit a single to put the Thunderbirds on the scoreboard. That would be it, though, as Smithtown pitcher Catherine Heacox dominated the game.

"We got short changed today," Hills East coach Jim Kiernan said after the game. "We have a lot of players out on injury, including both of our staring pitchers."
Hills East (1-3) does have a big win against top ranked East Islip under its belt, an 8-4 win against the Lady Redmen on March 29. Kiernan wasn't hanging his head after Friday's game.

"Our pitcher today (Rachel Golob) hadn't pitched all year," he said. "She gave it her best though. We all did and I'm very proud of them."
The Thunderbirds travel to Centereach Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game with an eye on victory.
