Hills East Volleyball Player Selected for National Competition

Half Hollow Hills High School East volleyball player Calvin Manchenko is currently training for one of the most competitive matches in the nation.
The rising senior was the only athlete from New York State selected to compete on the U.S. Boys’ Youth Continental Team at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships, taking place July 24-28 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Manchenko was selected through USA Volleyball Boys’ Indoor High Performance tryouts held across the country. The roster consists of 22 athletes from 10 USA Volleyball regions.

The Continental Team will compete in the Boys’ National Division, which will host 15 teams including two international teams. Manchenko and the rest of his team will be coached by Chris Harger, a former U.S. men’s national team athlete.
The competition comes just a few weeks after Manchenko competed in the Junior Olympics, held July 3-7 in Dallas, Texas.

During his junior year at Half Hollow Hills, Calvin Manchenko was selected as Player of the year for the Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Track & Field teams, and was also selected as a Newsday All Long Island Player, second team.
