Hills West Basketball Returns

The Colts prepare for the upcoming season.

After an unfavorable end to the 2009-2010 season, the Hills West Colts will be coming out with fire this season.

"Losing is not an option," claimed Iowa State-bound senior Tavon Sledge. Although the season has not yet begun, the team has already started forming chemistry through Fall Leagues and Intramurals.

"The egos are already fading away... I've never played on a team with such flow and rhythm at such an early stage of the season," remarked junior forward Emile Blackman, who has played on the varsity squad since his freshman season.

There are many players returning from last season, but the players that graduated are the ones that will be greatly missed. The Colts are missing one big, 6-foot 8-inch part of their team this year: the #5-ranked player in the nation, Tobias Harris. But even without his presence, the team is still projected to win big. The returning players have already started to work hard, and play together.

"It's the togetherness of the team that wins championships," commented Coach Bill Mitaritonna.

Coach Mitaritonna will be returning for his eleventh year as head coach to lead the Colts to another great season. "There are definitely great things ahead for the future of this team, and I don't want too say to much, because the season hasn't even started." Mitaritonna's main goal is to continue the success of his program, and make his players better athletes and better all-around men.

The future is unknown for the Colts, but their aspirations are big. Let's see what happens come November 17th when the season truly begins.

Mitaritonna concluded by saying, "Last season is over, and is in the past. We only look forward to what we can and will accomplish."
