HVAC Transformer Catches Fire, Smoke Stirs In Melville Building

MELVILLE, NY — Smoke welled up in part of a Melville office building on Sunday evening. The Melville Fire Department was called at 6:45 p.m. for an automatic alarm at the 395 N. Service Road building.

Chief David Kaplan was first to arrive and found a smoke condition in a stairway and on the second floor. Crews discovered a transformer for the HVAC fan caught fire and burned itself out. The scene was turned over to the property maintenance staff, and all Melville firefighters were up.
