2 Kids Hurt After Drunk Stepdad Crashes Car In Front Of Their Long Island Home: Police

The man's 2017 Jaguar struck his 13-year-old stepson who was walking a dog. Another stepson inside the car was also hurt, police say.

CENTERPORT, NY – A Long Island man was arrested on a felony DWI after a crash in front of his home injured his two stepsons, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, 42-year-old Scott Lipton was driving his 2017 Jaguar southbound on Laurel Hill Road in Centerport when his car struck his 13-year-old stepson, who was walking his dog, and then a pole at about 5:50 p.m.

The 13-year-old was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of a broken leg. Lipton’s 9-year-old stepson, who was a passenger in the car, was transported by Centerport Fire Department to Huntington Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Lipton, 42 of 47 Laurel Hill Road, was not injured. The dog was also not hurt.

Second Squad detectives charged Lipton with aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15 years or younger (Leandra’s Law) and endangering the welfare of a child. He will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Tuesday.
