Man Crashes Car In Suffolk, Arrested On Drug Charges: Police

The man had been shot in the arm, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — Suffolk police arrested a man, who had been shot in the arm, in connection with drug possession after he crashed his car in Melville on Sunday night, police said.

Daquan Cannon, 31, of Wyandanch, was driving a 2011 BMW sedan eastbound on the South Service Road, east of Broadhollow Road, when he veered off the roadway and struck a tree at 8 p.m., police said. Cannon ran off, police said.

A Canine Section officer found Cannon a short distance away from the crash roughly 40 minutes later, police said. When the officer found him, Cannon had a gunshot wound to his arm and was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Cannon was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with an outstanding warrant. Cannon is slated to be arraigned at later date.
