Man Steals $1,500 Gold Chain From Melville Store: Police

He requested to see several items of jewelry before swiping the chain, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is seeking the public's help in finding the man who Suffolk police said stole jewelry from a store in Melville in November.

A man entered Whitman Jewelry & Coins, at 552 Walt Whitman Road, and requested to see several items of jewelry, at 1 p.m. Nov. 4, police said. The man nabbed a Figaro gold chain with an estimated value of $1,500 and fled southbound on Route 110, police said. He is wanted for grand larceny.

Police ask anyone with information to reach Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip via phone call at 1-800-220-TIPS, using a mobile app which can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play by searching P3 Tips, or online at www.P3Tips.com. A cash reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
