Hills West Beats Whitman, 29-7
Colts improve to 2-0 after senior's second consecutive four-TD performance.
A week after being named ESPN's New York High School Player of the Week, duplicated his four-touchdown performance Saturday, as Half Hollow Hills West rolled over Walt Whitman, 29-7.
Walt Whitman (1-1) had no answer for the Colts' three-headed rushing attack of McFarlane, Jaques Jones and Jarried Redwood, who combined for 247 yards rushing.
"I think the offensive line did an amazing job opening the holes for Devante, Jarried and Jaques," said Hills West head coach Kyle Madden. "That’s the key to any running game, a strong offensive line."

McFarlane helped the Colts (2-0) build a 26-0 halftime lead with his four scores, three on the ground and one passing, and they never looked back.
"He did his job," said Madden. "His job is to get first downs, to score touchdowns and to navigate the offense. Today, for the most part he did that. We’re going to continue to work on our passing game to make us even stronger and tougher, but overall it was a pretty good performance."

After rushing for three scores, McFarlane aired it out just before halftime. The senior quarterback found Deven Williams down the left sideline for 27 yards that got the ball inside the Wildcats 10 yard line. On the next play, he hit a wide open Williams in the corner of the end zone for his fourth touchdown of the afternoon.
McFarlane finished with 130 yards on 18 carries and was 3-of-6 passing for 52 yards.
"I have to give it to my linemen. They did a great job blocking and so did my running backs. We did a good job."
Though their offense was significantly more pedestrian in the second half, the Colts defense, led by seniors Omar Clark and James D'Acunti, stood up and was able to keep the Whitman offense at bay.
McFarlane said he preferred today's performance over last week's due to a lack of concentration after halftime. As for whether he thought he'd earn another honor from ESPN?
"I'm not sure," he said with a laugh. "But I hope so."
