Melville House Fills Up With Smoke
A malfunctioning air conditioning unit caused the smoke odor and haze on Monday night, fire officials say.
A malfunctioning air conditioning unit was found to be the reason an occupied Melville home filled up with smoke on Monday night.
According to fire officials, the Melville Fire Department responded to the home on Faulkner Lane at 7:25 p.m. to find smoke odor and haze.
It was determined the source of the smoke was from the second floor air conditioning unit. No injuries were reported.

About 30 firefighters were at the scene with three engines, a ladder truck, heavy rescue and an ambulance.
All units were under the command of Assistant Chief David Kaplan.
