Police Officer Injured In Suffolk Crash; Man Charged W/ DWI: SCPD
The man crashed his car into a police vehicle, injuring an officer, police say.
MELVILLE, NY — A man who crashed his car into a police vehicle in Melville, injuring the officer, was charged with a DWI on Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.
Kushal Dilawri, 33, of Hicksville, was driving a 2018 Honda Accord when he veered off the highway at 4:38 a.m. and hit a marked Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol vehicle on the side of the westbound Long Island Expressway, near exit 49, police said. The officer was processing an earlier motor vehicle crash when the car was hit by Dilawri, police said.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening, police said. Dilawri was not injured.

Dilawri was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was being held at the Second Precinct for arraignment on Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
