St. Anthony's Grad Auditions to Sing at Citi Field

Andrew Baransky, a Dix Hills resident and a 2010 graduate, auditioned Monday at Citi Field.

No, it wasn't to pitch for the New York Mets. It was to sing the National Anthem at a Mets game this year. 

Interestingly enough, Baransky didn't sing "The Star Spangled Banner."

"We were allowed to sing any song but that one for this preliminary round," he said.

Baransky sang  “The Impossible Dream” from "Man of La Mancha."

A lifelong Mets fan, Baransky said that he decided to tryout because he wanted to do something that would allow him to use his singing talent. He did theater in high school and is also a piano player.

He wasn't the only one who decided to come down to Citi Field to sing.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more than 300 people there to audition," he said. "I arrived there an hour and a half before they started seeing people and I was number 161. When I got there, the people toward the front of the line had blankets and looked like they had been there for a long time."

Baransky had to wait about three hours before he got to sing for the camera. When it was his turn, he was taken into the judging room. He didn't receive any on-the-spot feedback and did not get a time frame on when he should expect to hear who made it to call-backs.

Hopefully he'll be getting some good news from the Mets soon.
