Suffolk County Woman Shot in Leg Mistook Gunshot for Firework
She realized the sound was in fact a gunshot after she felt pain in her leg, police say.

A woman walking in Huntington Station mistook the sound of a gunshot for a firework until she realized she was shot Wednesday night, police say.
According to authorities, Lanise Felder, 40, of Huntington Station, was walking on Craven Street towards 10th Avenue when she thought she heard a firecracker explode at 11:20 p.m. She then felt a tingling in her lower leg and realized she was shot about four inches above her ankle, police say.
A black SUV, possibly a Nissan Pathfinder, was seen leaving the scene of the shooting, police say.

Felder was transported to Huntington Hospital by a family member where she contacted the police and was treated for her injury.
