The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center's Holiday Line-Up
This November/December, the Performing Arts Center at Five Towns College, introduces a wide variety of shows.
The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center at Five Towns College in Dix Hills has a large variety of upcoming shows, including theatrical, comical and musical, to entertain all ages and interests this holiday season.
Leading off their November lineup on Nov. 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m., pianist Scott Ballin and host Gene Santini present The Great American Songbook. Enjoy the best of Broadway and Hollywood with Five Towns Colleges' up and coming rising vocal stars. Tickets are $10 each.
On Nov. 6 and 7, Five Towns College presents a Children's Theatre version of Disney's Aladdin. Join Princess Jasmine and the street urchin Aladdin as he finds a magic lamp complete with a genie that grants him three wishes. Show times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 6 and noon and 3 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 7. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children.

The Performing Arts Center presents the Theatrical Comedy Festival Durang Durang on Nov. 11, 12 1nd 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. Christopher Durang performs two comedies called "Baby with the Bathwater" and "The Actor's Nightmare." These shows are $15 per person, $12 for seniors and students.
Rounding out the month of November on the 19th, the Five Towns Gospel Choir will present an evening of new and favorite songs at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. And on Nov. 20, also at 7:30 p.m., direct from "Late Night with David Letterman," Comedian Eddie Brill will entertain. Tickets are $20.

Opening their December lineup is MAME! the Musical. MAME takes place in 1920s New York and is the story of a woman with an adventurous spirit who becomes the guardian to her 10-year-old orphaned nephew. Auntie Mame's life becomes turned upside down, thus causing her priorities to change. MAME is presented Dec 2, 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students.
On Dec. 7 both the Five Towns College (FTC) Women's and Men's Barbershop A Cappella Ensembles, along with the Long Island Sound Chorus, will treat your senses with their ringing sounds and incredible chords. This performance will be followed on Dec. 8 by a free performance by the FTC Chorus and Chamber Orchestra. And the week wraps up on Dec. 9 with a holiday concert with the FTC Choir and Concert Pops. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the Barbershop and Holiday Concert are $10 each.
Two tribute bands follow on Dec. 10 and 11. First, Long Island's own Tom Cavanagh and his band Walking the Line will present the most loved hits of Johnny Cash on Dec. 10. And on Dec. 11, Beginnings will play the best of Chicago as well as holiday favorites as they pay tribute to the Chicago Transit Authority. Both performances are at 7:30 p.m. and cost $25 per person.
A Broadway Bound Theatrical Review, directed by Gary and Kita de Sesa, will be performed on Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. This cabaret review will include theater songs ranging from classic Broadway standards to new tunes from modern shows. Tickets are $15 adults and $12 seniors.
Two evenings of jazz follow on Dec. 14 and 15. First up, on Dec. 14 is the Five Towns College (FTC) Jazz Orchestra playing the big bands of yesterday and today and the FTC Vocal Jazz Ensemble singing sophisticated arrangements of renowned classic composers as well as original works. This show is at 7:30 p.m. and costs $10. The following day on Dec. 15, Five Towns College presents a free concert performed by FTC professor and trumpeter Greg Bobulinski's jazz ensemble students. This performance takes place at 4 p.m.
Ending the calendar year, guitar lovers will want to join Five Towns College for an exciting evening of great guitar music dedicated to East Coast NYC studio greats Tony Mottola, Al Caiola and Johnny Smith, and West Coast L.A. studio experts Bob Bain and Tommy Garrett, featuring special guest Joe Carbone. The Five Towns College Guitar Orchestra will play their arrangements, along with the Nashville Studio Ensemble and the Tony Mottola Recording Ensemble. This performance is Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.
