HARLEM, NY — Harlem will welcome two special visitors this weekend: First lady Jill Biden and Dr. Anthony S. Fauci.

On Sunday, June 6, Dr. Biden and Dr. Fauci will visit the vaccination clinic at Abyssinian Baptist Church on 138th Street near Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard, according to Biden's office, which announced the trip Friday morning.

They will arrive around 4:15 p.m., according to Biden's office. The purpose of their visit was not immediately clear.

Abyssinian, the venerated house of worship, has hosted a vaccine site since January, during the early days of the city's rollout. The first recipient was Abyssinian pastor Rev. Calvin O. Butts, III, who said he hoped that hosting a vaccination site at the historic church would help increase trust in the vaccine.

The trip will be something of a homecoming for Fauci, who was raised in Brooklyn and now serves as the chief medical advisor to the president and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.

Now, the site is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the end of June, offering the Pfizer vaccine — including to young people ages 12 to 15. It is run in partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The COVID-19 vaccine is now open to all New York residents age 12 and older. To make an appointment or find a walk-up site, visit vaccinefinder.nyc.gov.
