Harlem Woman Killed By Estranged Husband, Prosecutors Say

The man evaded arrest for more than three months.

HARLEM, NY — A Bronx man has been indicted on murder and other charges for allegedly shooting his estranged wife to death inside her Harlem apartment late last year, prosecutors said on Friday.

Eliud Garcia, 50, is accused of killing 47-year-old Basilisa Negron on Dec. 23, 2025, after months of alleged abuse, stalking and harassment, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

According to the NYPD, officers responded to a 911 call at 1:04 p.m. on Dec. 23, reporting a woman shot inside 115 West 141st St.

When officers arrived, they found the woman unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene, police said.

"Basilisa Negron was getting ready for work one morning when her estranged husband allegedly broke into her apartment and murdered her with six gunshots at close range," Bragg said.

According to prosecutors, the violence began escalating weeks before the killing.

On Oct. 27, 2025, Garcia allegedly punched Negron in the face and repeatedly kicked her after she refused to have sex with him. He also allegedly threatened to harm her children and kill her if she were ever with someone else.

Negron suffered visible injuries, including a bruised eye and arm, and subsequently forced Garcia out of the apartment and ended the relationship, officials said.

In the weeks that followed, Garcia allegedly continued to contact her, calling repeatedly even after she blocked his number. He is also accused of accessing her social media accounts and showing up near her apartment, despite having moved to the Bronx, prosecutors said.

On the morning of Dec. 23, prosecutors say Garcia traveled from his parents’ home in the Bronx to Harlem and waited outside Negron’s building for at least 30 minutes.

After watching Negron’s daughter leave to get food from a nearby deli, Garcia allegedly slipped into the building as someone exited and entered the apartment, where he shot Negron six times at close range, striking her in the head and body.

He then fled through a side entrance and evaded law enforcement for roughly three months before being arrested on March 25, authorities said.

"My thoughts are with Ms. Negron’s children and other loved ones who are mourning her devastating loss," Bragg said.

Garcia faces a New York State Supreme Court indictment that includes one count of second-degree murder, along with multiple counts of burglary, weapons possession, stalking, assault and aggravated harassment.
