EAST HARLEM, NY — Police are investigating after a 22-year-old man died in East Harlem after a lengthy delay getting him to the hospital, New York City Police Department officials told Patch.
On Saturday at 5:13 p.m. at 124 East 116th St., police responded to a 911 call about a 22-year-old man who was suffering from a medical episode and was "acting erratic," police said.
Police called EMS twice for an ambulance, at 5:44 p.m. and again at 6:05 p.m.
When none showed up, police took the man to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem in their patrol car at 6:25 p.m., police said. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:56 p.m., police said.
The NYPD's Force Investigation Division — which examines whether officers used improper force on a suspect — is now investigating the incident.
The man's name is being withheld until the family can be properly notified.
