Harlem Man Found Dead With Off-Duty NYPD Officer Brother; AG Opens Probe

The man's brother, who is an off-duty NYPD officer, was in the room when he was shot to death.

HARLEM, NY — Attorney General Letitia James has opened an investigation into the death of 24-year-old Ousmane Diallo, who died on Saturday in Harlem.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, NYPD officers responded to 911 calls reporting a shooting in an apartment on Fredrick Douglass Boulevard near Macombs Place in Harlem.

When officers entered the apartment, they found Diallo, who had a gunshot wound to his right eye, and his brother, who is an off-duty NYPD officer.

Diallo was pronounced dead at the scene, and officers recovered a gun at the scene.

The Attorney General's office said that every incident where a police officer may have caused the death of someone is investigated, per New York State Law.
