EAST HARLEM, NY — East Harlem has 23 apartments with rents starting at $487 up for grabs as part of a new local housing lottery.

The apartment building, located at 111 East 123rd St. between Park and Lexington avenues, includes an on-site super, an elevator, bike storage, a community room, a mail room, an outdoor recreation area, as well as free, secure in-unit access to broadband internet for all households, as well as a card-operated laundry room, according to the listing.

The building, called Castle III, is renting 23 apartments starting at $487 per month for people who make between $19,989 and $109,920 annually. The priciest apartment in the lottery is a two-bedroom renting for $1,683 per month.

However, there is a catch: Your total income and family size need to fit within a certain range to be eligible to apply to the housing lottery, and each lottery has different income restrictions, based on a measurement called "Area Median Income," which you can calculate here.

Once New Yorkers apply for an eligible unit, they are issued a log number, and then the numbers are chosen at random by an automated system, lottery-style.

The lottery for this location is open until Sept. 7. The winners of the lottery will be chosen on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
