HARLEM, NY — Democratic nominee Darializa Avila Chevalier was elected to Congress to represent upper Manhattan in the 2026 general election on Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press.
With more than 96 percent of ballots scanned, Chevalier led the night with 138,460 votes to Republican nominee Jomo William's 17,999 votes, according to the New York City Board of Elections.
In June, Democratic Socialists of America and Mayor Zohran Mamdani-backed Chevalier won the primary against the incumbent Espaillat with 49 percent of the vote in a major Democratic upset.
Congressional District 13 includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill, and the northwest Bronx.
As of 6 p.m. on Tuesday, 415,165 people cast their ballots in Manhattan.
