East Harlem Woman Stabbed To Death By Ex-Boyfriend: Police

A man stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in an East Harlem apartment Wednesday, police said. He was in critical condition with stab wounds.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A woman was stabbed to death in East Harlem on Wednesday by her ex-boyfriend, who also suffered serious stab wounds, according to police.

Police responded around 8:46 p.m. Wednesday to an apartment on East 115th Street near First Avenue, after getting a 911 call about an assault in progress.

They found the victim, a 27-year-old woman, with multiple stab wounds throughout her body. She was pronounced dead at Metropolitan Hospital.

The alleged assailant, 26-year-old Fernando Munera, sustained stab wounds to the neck and chest after some kind of struggle, police said. He was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition and faces charges of murder, burglary and criminal contempt, police said.

Police believe Munera lived downstairs from his ex-girlfriend and attacked her after managing to get into her apartment, the Daily News reported. The woman had an order of protection against him after a history of domestic violence, according to the Daily News.

Police have not released the woman's name and an investigation is ongoing.
