Woman Hit, Killed By Truck In East Harlem

A truck driver hit and killed a 57-year-old woman in an East Harlem street on Thursday, Harlem's second pedestrian death in two days.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A woman was killed Thursday morning when a truck driver hit and killed her in an East Harlem street, police said.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of East 124th Street and Lexington Avenue.

The victim, a 57-year-old woman, was hit by a box truck driven by a 55-year-old man who was turning from East 124th onto Lexington, a police spokesperson said. Police found her lying unconscious and unresponsive, with "body trauma."

She was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene, police said. Police did not identify the woman and did not say whether she was hit in the crosswalk.

The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash, police said.

Since 2011, two other pedestrians have been injured in crashes at that intersection, according to city data from Crashmapper.

Thursday's crash came just two days after a 39-year-old man was fatally crushed by a tractor-trailer pulling into a supermarket garage in Harlem.
