2 Suffolk Residents Face Charges After Westchester Police Chase

Police said they recovered a stolen car and a loaded 9 mm handgun after the arrests.

HARRISON, NY — Westchester County Police arrested two Suffolk County men Wednesday after a police chase into Connecticut and back out.

About noon yesterday, the Real Time Crime Center at Westchester County Police headquarters broadcast an alert that a stolen vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 684, police said.

New York State Police located and tried to stop it but the driver kept going.

Westchester County's Police Aviation Unit helicopter and a county police officer joined the state police in chasing the vehicle onto Interstate 84, but ended the pursuit when the driver entered Connecticut.

A short time later, county police located the vehicle traveling southbound on I-684 and again attempted a traffic stop with NYSP troopers.

The driver fled south onto the Hutchinson River Parkway, where he crashed near the Interstate 287 interchange in Harrison.

Two men jumped out of the car and ran off, but were caught after police pursued them on foot.

Angel Vasquez, 18, and Saevian Watts, 20, both of Suffolk County, New York, were booked at County Police headquarters in Hawthorne on charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, felonies; and Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor.

Vazquez, the driver, was also charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, a misdemeanor.
