Pizza 2000 Hosts Pizza Day to Benefit HPLF

Owner John DiLuna of has graciously offered to host an all day Pizza Pie fundraiser at his shop located at 337 Halstead Avenue on Tuesday, May 8 to benefit the Harrison Public Library Foundation.

DiLuna will donate 40 percent of the revenues from pizza pie orders (take out and dine-in) to the foundation. Please note that this offer applies only to pizza orders (not beverages or other food items) and does not apply for delivery.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be dedicated to the reinvigoration of the downtown library facility, the Halperin Building. The full effort to renovate the building is a joint undertaking between the town, the Library Board and the Harrison Public Library Foundation, which was formed in November 2010. HPLF is a non-profit organization created with the goal of improving and enhancing the library, to support its programs and services and to solidify the library’s presence as the foundation of the community.

Jessica Burack, the foundation’s newest board member, a town resident and English teacher at Harrison High School, initiated the Pizza Day event. Burack thought the partnership between the local merchant and the foundation would have perfect synergy.

“The Harrison Public Library is a fantastic resource for the community. Pizza 2000’s commitment to assist the HPLF in its mission to help revitalize the downtown library proves to town residents the value ofa state of the art library as a true hub for intellectual promise, and provide all who frequent it with opportunities to expand their horizons,” she said.

The Library Foundation is interested in doing similar events with other Harrison businesses to raise funds for the renovation of the library while alsoassisting the downtown Harrison business district.

DiLuna, a proud, long-time supporter of The Harrison Public Library, thinks that this event is a great way to support the greater community.

“When Jessica approached me with this idea, I knew Pizza 2000 would be a natural place to help create awareness for the HPLF," he said. "We service the families of Harrison, the same group that will greatly benefit from a revitalized library.”

Money raised from this event is essential to modernizing the downtown library facility that was constructed in 1961. Leaders driving the project are committed to providing Harrison residents with a library that is a timeless resource for generations to come.
