Softball Pitcher and Infielder Julia Brefere Provides Huskies With Leadership
Julia Brefere played a vital role on the Harrison softball team, as well being one of the few seniors on the school's cheerleading team.
Julia Brefere literally practices her craft twelve months a year, which is a rarity in high school athletics.
Brefere spent her senior year as a key member of the Husky cheerleading and softball teams. Though her best sport is softball, Brefere also used her agility and versatility to help the school's cheerleading team. This season Brefere was one of only seven seniors on the team, providing leadership for the large group.
"As a young member in the Harrison cheerleading family I look up to Julia immensely," said Katie Fanelli. "Julia always worked hard in practice and she provided us with veteran leadership all season long."

After the varsity softball season ended, Brefere joined the summer travel team Total Kaos. On the Kaos team Brefere is looked at as the team's second pitcher, behind Ashley Marino.
"Julia is a great weapon for us to have," said Marino. "Knowing that your second pitcher can go out there and win a game or save a game for us is a huge asset that we have."

During the spring Brefere was rarely asked pitch, but she was used for her bat. As a designated hitter Brefere elongated the Husky lineup, adding both power and a keen eye. Brefere was also used occasionally at third base.
After knocking off some rust she has proved to be a formidable fielder at the hot corner this year.
"Whenever she was playing she gave 100 percent," said Harrison centerfielder Jenna Webb. "We could count on her at the plate to get some big hits and make great plays at third."
Next year Brefere will be staying local as she joins the class of 2014 at Iona College in New Rochelle New York.
Best of luck and continued success Julia Brefere, Harrison Patch's athlete of the week for July 4 - 10.
