Bratberg Brings Leadership to FIeld Hockey Team

The Harrison field hockey team has taken significant steps forward during each of the last three years. The team has built it's success on several key players and longtime starters—players like Ashley Bratberg.

Bratberg has been a starter on the varsity field hockey team since her sophomore year. As a senior Bratberg stepped in as one of the team's leaders and captains and was voted all-league honorable mention.

"Ashley has worked hard over the last four years to improve and set an example for her teammates," said Harrison Head Coach Sara Gonzalez. "Her off-season dedication has helped to set a new expectation for Harrison field hockey."

As a sweeper, Bratberg's talent and knowledge on the field helped her become one of the strongest defensive players on the team. Bratberg's intensity as one of the last lines of defense allowed her to make several last second and game-changing saves for the team.

"She was the post player for us on defensive corners and has made numerous goal line saves and is also a corner hitter setting up valuable goals and scoring opportunities," said Gonzalez. "Ashley's communication and passion will be missed next year."

Statistically Bratberg only had two assists this season, but her value was so much more to the team than on the stat sheet. Bratberg's leadership and intangibles made her a captain and a role model on the team who was admired by all of her teammates.

"Ashley is very vocal captain who had been a key player in our defense," said Bratberg's co-captain Rachel Manning.

Bratberg's career is over as a high school athlete but as the aggressive competitor Bratberg will surely succeed in all of her future endeavors. Best of luck and continued success to Ashley Bratberg, Harrison Patch's athlete of the week.
