Cops ID Victim In Fatal Crash On I-287

The driver of a truck overturned in a stream was found dead at the scene by emergency responders.

UPDATE 1 p.m. —The driver of a box truck died on I-287 when he collided with another vehicle at 7:33 p.m. Tuesday. New York State police said John P. Riofrio of New York City was traveling eastbound when he collided with another vehicle.

After the collision Riofrio, 48, then lost control of his truck and traveled off the roadway over the southern shoulder and through the guide rail, police said. The truck then overturned and came to rest in a small stream.

Riofrio was found dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

The two passengers in the box truck were William N. Feliciano, 24, of NYC who was treated at the scene for minor injuries and Salvador Salazar Carrillo, 29 of Astoria, NY who was transported to Westchester Medical for treatment of minor injuries.

The operator of the other vehicle was not injured, police said.

Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and DEC all assisted on the scene.


HARRISON, NY — A truck accident on I-287 in Harrison Tuesday evening led to a death, according to New York state police. The report to state police at 7:33 p.m. was of a fatal accident on I-287 eastbound near mile post marker 6.9.

Police initially said the passenger in a tractor trailer was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was reported to have sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation suggested no other vehicles were involved in the accident. Accident reconstruction and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit were called to the scene. The passenger's name is being withheld pending next of kin notification, police said.
