Cuomo, Astorino and Day Pay Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The governor and Westchester and Rockland county executives released inspiring statements about the iconic civil rights leader.

As residents of the Hudson Valley and the nation Monday celebrate the holiday honoring civil rights legend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., governor Andrew Cuomo, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Rockland County Executive Ed Day all released statements paying tribute to the slain icon.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo: Dear Fellow New Yorker,
Today we honor and uphold the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who dedicated his life to fighting for justice and civil rights. Dr. King held infinite hope that one day, there would be a world in which all men, women and children would be considered equal regardless of the color of their skin. His struggle and activism led to groundbreaking civil and voting rights victories over the last 50 years.

Dr. King’s message rings true today in New York and across our nation. In these uncertain times, I urge New Yorkers to find commonality to move our state forward and work together to achieve justice and equality for all.
I join with all New Yorkers in remembering this great leader, today and every day.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino: “Dr. King was a role model in service and leadership for our nation, and today, more than ever, we need to remind ourselves of his example, and never stop seeking to fulfill his dream. The Bible tells us, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” Dr. King was certainly blessed. Not with a long life but with an impactful one. A life that 47 years after its last breath still pulls us toward, as Lincoln once said, ‘the better angels of our nature.’ May the life, words and deeds of Dr. King always resonate in every American’s heart and guide each of us to strive forward with respect for all.”
