Former attorney Anthony Mangone, of Purchase, was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison in connection with a 2010 bribery case in Yonkers, reports The Journal News.
Mangone was accused of taking part in a political fixing scheme involving former Yonkers Councilwoman Sandy Annabi and former Yonkers Republican Chairman Zehy Jereis.
Annabi received thousands of dollars in illegal payments to influence her votes, and Mangone was found guilty of passing along some of them to her.
Over the years, Mangone was mixed up in a host of schemes and illegal activities, many of which he was never charged with, in part because his admissions and testimony helped to bring down several area politicians.
“You, Mr. Mangone, were a dirty lawyer for many, many years,” said U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon at the sentencing, as reported by The Journal News. “The story of your career is a truly pathetic one, you got away with quite a bit.”
