Fair Campaign Committee Upholds Pennella's Complaint in Harrison Receiver Of Taxes Race

The committee ruled that Maria Mioli Pennella's opponent, Rosa Mastrogiacomo-Luongo, misled with a letter to "fellow" Green Party voters.

From the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee

The Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee received a complaint from Maria Mioli Pennella, candidate for Receiver of Taxes, Town/Village of Harrison, against Rosa Mastrogiacomo-Luongo, candidate for the same office. Because of the clarity of the complaint, the Committee, following its own Guidelines, hereby issues a Finding without holding a hearing.

COMPLAINT: Ms. Pennella complains that a letter to Green Party registered voters from Rosa Mastrogiacomo-Luongo is addressed “Dear Fellow Green Party Member,” when Ms. Mastrogiacomo-Luongo is not a member of the Green Party. The letter encourages Green Party voters to vote for her.

FINDING: UNFAIR
Ms. Mastrogiacomo-Luongo’s letter addressed to “Fellow Green Party Member” is misleading because she is not a member of that party. Although the letter does say that she is the Republican candidate, by using the term “Fellow” she gives the false impression that she is a member of that party.
