Harrison Budget, Hanukkah, Football Breakfast: Mayor's Report
Reminder: Harrison is a wonderful place to do your holiday shopping.

From the Mayor and Town Hall
December 11, 2017
I am happy to report that the Town Board adopted the 2018 budget on December 7, 2017. As in previous years, this budget maintains the high quality services and facilities our community values and has come to expect.
Once again, this budget will keep the town under the state-mandated property tax cap that began in 2012. The adopted 2018 tax rate has an increase of 2.981%. There are no one-shot revenues or appropriation of fund balance within this budget. Our NYS Retirement bill is fully funded, as it has been in previous years. Though it is allowed, we do not borrow to pay for pensions. Revenue has once again been conservatively budgeted as have expenditures. Though the results of our 2017 budget year will not be in for several months, I do expect to be adding to our reserves once again. These reserves will enable us to continue our commitment to the taxpayers of Harrison by providing them with building and infrastructure improvements that help make us the outstanding community that we are and will continue to be.

Recently, members of the Jewish community began the celebration of Hanukkah. This holiday pays tribute to the unbreakable spirit and fortitude of the Jewish people. The message of Hanukkah serves as a lesson to us all that, when we stand united, we can conquer any problem and overcome any setback. It is my hope that the Festival of Lights brings comfort and consolation to all and encourages not only our nation, but our cities, towns and villages to gather together and cherish the bonds of community. On behalf of the entire Town Board, I wish all Harrison residents, and their families, a very happy Hanukkah.
I recently had the pleasure of attending the Harrison High School Football Team’s annual end of the season breakfast. It was a wonderful event where the best and the brightest players from the team were recognized and honored. I am proud of these young men as they exemplify not only athletic talent, but skill and character both on and off the field. It was a privilege to be invited and I look forward to next season.
