The Harrison High School newspaper, The Husky Herald, has been awarded a First Place designation from American Scholastic Press Association for 2014. The Association noted that Harrison High School’s school newspaper “shows the creativity and journalistic knowledge of your editors, reporters, writers photographers, layout/graphic designers and advisor.”
Husky Herald advisor Gary Glauber noted that he and the students updated the graphics, changed the column sizes, and improved the captions in the newspaper. The Husky Herald had also incorporated a staff editorial. As noted in the masthead, the newspaper is published by the journalism classes at Harrison High School, along with the volunteers who attend the weekly meetings. Editorial content of The Husky Herald is determined by the editorial staff and reflects the opinions of the editors and staff, not necessarily that of the Harrison High School faculty and administration. The staff of The Husky Herald encourages students to get involved and have their opinions heard.
Issues of The Husky Herald are produced four times each year. This year’s editor-in chief is Ariel Coonin, managing editor is Clarissa Karantzis, Sports editor is Trent Lefkowitz, news editors are Helina Dawit and Brittany Wolfe, entertainment editor is Rob Sperduto, head proofreader is Jenna Lefkowitz, and photography/design editor is Rula Samad.
