Harrison MD Using Ketamine to Treat Depression

This new use of the anesthetic has been fast-tracked by the FDA.

HARRISON, NY – The use of ketamine to treat major depression was recently fast-tracked by the Food and Drug Administration.

To make this treatment available to local residents suffering from depression, long-time Westchester
County physician Dr. Alan Young recently opened Ketamine Medical Solutions of Westchester in Harrison.

“Other depression treatments may take weeks or months to alleviate symptoms. And in many cases, the medications are never successful," said Dr. Young in a press release. "What makes ketamine so promising is that it can provide relief in a matter of hours."

According to Dr. Young, studies have shown that infusions of ketamine — a medication historically used as an anesthetic — can provide fast relief for treatment-resistant depression. Researchers believe that ketamine works by rewiring the nerve pathways that are damaged by depression. Side effects are minimal and generally abate within an hour of beginning treatment.

Ketamine Medical Solutions of Westchester is located at 450 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 414, in Harrison, New York. Patients who would like to schedule an evaluation with Dr. Young can do so by calling (914) 539-0545 or by visiting ketaminewestchester.com.
