HCSD Welcomes Antonia Simao As Supervisor of Secondary Education

Harrison Central School District hires new Supervisor of Special Education

The Harrison Central School District is excited to welcome Ms. Antonia Simao to her new role as the Supervisor of Secondary Special Education, effective July 1, 2018.

Ms. Simao began her career in education as a special education teacher in New York City through the Teach for America program. In this role, she served as a 7th grade co-teacher in English Language Arts, science, and social studies classes and served on the school’s Child Study Team and Positive Behavior Interventions Support Team.

Ms. Simao later served as a school psychologist for four years at the Success Academy in the Bronx, where she provided social and behavioral support to students, implemented behavior intervention plans, and provided faculty with professional development on Response to Intervention strategies.

For the past two years, Ms. Simao has served as a Special Education School Improvement Specialist with the Mid-Hudson Regional Special Education Technical Assistance Support Center. In this role, Ms. Simao worked directly with administrators and teams of teachers to conduct program evaluations of special education programs, analyze progress and achievement data for special education students, and lead a Quality Improvement Process to develop and implement research-based interventions in the classroom. Ms. Simao also recently co-planned and co-facilitated Exceptional Students, Exceptional Leaders, a year-long institute designed for school leaders serving students with disabilities.

Ms. Simao earned two bachelor’s degrees in psychology and Italian from Fairfield University; a master’s degree in special education from the City College of New York; and a master’s degree in therapeutic interventions and school psychology from Fordham University.
