HCSD Welcomes Claire Kaitz as Supervisor of Secondary Special Education
Harrison High School co-mathematics and special education teacher elevated into leadership position

The Harrison Central School District is excited to announce that Claire Kaitz has assumed a leadership position as the new Supervisor of Secondary Special Education.
Ms. Kaitz is well known to the Harrison High School community, where she served for the past five years as a very effective teacher of special education and mathematics. In this role and as a special education teacher in the district’s summer school program, Ms. Kaitz co-taught mathematics courses that helped special needs students meet challenging graduation requirements. Ms. Kaitz also served for a year as a special education teacher at the Louis M. Klein Middle School and for two years as an assistant special education teacher at the Winward School.
This past summer, Ms. Kaitz served as a co-principal in Harrison High School’s summer school, where she helped students recover credit and successfully pass Regents exams required for graduation. Her leadership experience also includes completing an internship in the Office of Special Education, where she gained experience leading CSE meetings, co-facilitating professional development for teachers, and helping teachers analyze student achievement data to inform instructional decisions.

Ms. Kaitz earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis and a master’s degree in special education and mathematics from Long Island University. Ms. Kaitz was also nominated by the Superintendent of Schools to enroll in the prestigious Future School Leaders Academy at Bank Street College, where she is completing graduate course work in school leadership.
