HCSD Welcomes Dr. Jaimie Kanter
Dr. Jaimie Kanter is Harrison's new Director English Language Arts

The Harrison Central School District Is excite to welcome Dr. Jaimie Kanter to Harrison’s leadership team as the Director of English Language Arts.
For the past thirteen years, Dr. Kanter has served as an English Language Arts teacher at South Woods Middle School in Syosset, New York, where she co-taught with special educators and partnered with ESL teachers to support English language learners.
Dr. Kanter has also recently served as an adjunct professor at Hofstra University, where she taught graduate courses on the theory and practice of teaching and the integration of literacy in the content areas to pre-service teachers. Before teaching in Syosset, Dr. Kanter also taught English Language Arts at the George J. Ryan Middle School in Flushing, New York.

Dr. Kanter has presented at national, state and local professional conferences, including Filling in the Gaps and Finding the Potential: Fan Fiction at the National Council of Teachers of English Convention; The Writer’s Workshop: Adding Voice in our Writing at the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Conference; and Fan Fiction Writing: The Artifacts of a Reader at the Literature and the Imagination Conference. Her publications include Rethinking My Writing Pedagogy in the NCTE School Talk.
Dr. Kanter graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in English from the State University of New York at Albany; a master’s degree in English education from Teachers College at Columbia University; and a doctorate in literacy from Hofstra University. She also holds a professional certificate in supervision and administration from Queens College.
