According to dance teacher Deborah Toteda, “The mission of the NHSDA is to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in Dance for students in grades 9-12 and to foster an appreciation for dance as a true art form and one worthy of recognition and prestige.”

Student induction is awarded on the basis of points earned for their participation in dance that meets the honor society’s general guidelines in addition to the grade point average in dance. Students must demonstrate collaborative teamwork, motivation, and participation in the many aspects of dance, including choreography, performance, and community outreach in relation to the HHS Dance Program. Students accumulate points and induction may begin junior year. HHS juniors received a certificate and pin, while the seniors received certificates, pins, and cords indicating their induction to be worn during the graduation ceremony June 26th.

“The students were inducted after a celebration of dance during the evening of the Choreographer’s Showcase,” said Toteda. “The kids absolutely loved performing and the NHSDA induction was the icing on the cake for them as they received recognition for their dedication to dance.”
