HHS Italian Club Enhances Learning At The Met in NYC
Harrison High School Students Have An Opportunity To Study Italian Art and Culture in New York City

Members of the Harrison High School Italian club spent a bucolic Saturday afternoon immersed in the 19th century world of Italian masters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Students toured the renowned gallery to inspect the works of Amedeo Modigliani, Giorgio de Chirico, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and sculptures such as “Man in Space” by the futurista Umberto Boccioni.
The students also took the time to visit the Roman and Egyptian galleries as well as the exhibit: “Beyond Caravaggio” by Valentin de Boulogne, the French follower of Carvaggio. The Met, in cooperation with the Musee du Louvre, is presenting the first ever exhibition of Valentin de Boulogne. Forty-five paintings from this acclaimed 17th century artist will be on display at the Met from October 7 – January 16 in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall.
The Harrison students also visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and lunched at the Plaza.

“I believe that experiences such as trips to landmarks and visiting museums can provide memorable, immersive learning and can become a meaningful part of the students’ life,” said Maria Battipaglia, HHS teacher of Italian and Latin. “For some students, it was the first visit to the Met, a learning experience without homework!”
