HHS Marching Band Performs at The Capitol Theater and Yankee Stadium

Harrison High School Marching Band Showcased in Multiple High Profile Events

How many high school students can say they opened for Joan Jett and The Blackhearts and the next weekend played at a Division I College Football game in historic Yankee Stadium? The Harrison High School Marching Band has these two unique performance opportunities in the next few weeks.

On Saturday, November 5, 2016, the nationally recognized and award-winning Harrison High School Marching Band will open for the iconic rock band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York.

They will be among the performers of The Really Big Show, a charitable fundraising concert and variety show benefitting Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Family Services of Westchester (FSW). Big Brothers, Big Sisters of FSW is a youth mentoring organization designed to provide at-risk children with strong, positive and enduring one-to-one relationships. Other performers will include Christina Bianco, George Porter Jr., Brandon “Taz” Niederauer the current star of “School of Rock” on Broadway.

On Saturday, November 12, 2016, the Harrison High School Marching Band will be playing in the stands with the Fordham University pep band when Fordham takes on their rivals Holy Cross at Yankee Stadium at 3pm. This Patriot League Conference game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.

Finally, the HHS Marching Band will take to the parade route again when they perform at the annual Veteran’s Day Parade in West Harrison on Friday, November 11th and at the UBS Parade Spectacular on Sunday, November 20th at noon in Stamford, Connecticut. The UBS Parade Spectacular, presented by Stamford Town Center and Stamford Advocate, is one of the largest helium balloon parades in the country and the Harrison High School Marching Band has been honored to attend this event for nearly a decade.

“The month of November is providing an amazing series of opportunities for our students,” said Briem. “How many students can say they performed in a concert with a recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, performed on a national sports network in front of 20,000 fans, and played in front of 100,000 people in one of the largest Balloon parades in the country – all on consecutive weekends.”
