Harrison High School senior Jenna Lefkowitz has been named a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship program. Winners of this prestigious competition will be announced in May.
The National Merit Scholarship program is an academic competition that began in 1955. Over 1.5 million high school students enter the National Merit program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) each year. In September, roughly 50,000 of the initial applicants were notified that their high test scores had qualified them as either a Commended Student or a Semi Finalist in the program.
In addition to Lefkowitz, senior Liliane Lindsay was also named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist. Seniors Benjamin Adler, Kiersten Colotti, Amanda Friedman, Danielle Mehlman, Julia Ng, and Michael Stella were notified last fall that they had received commendation from the National Merit organization.

Lefkowitz is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate who will graduate Summa Cum Laude in June, a Harrison High School distinction that recognizes students who have achieved a grade point average of 98.0 or higher through their high school career. She has been enrolled in two foreign languages through high school – Italian and Latin – and has been inducted into the National Foreign Language Honor Society in both languages and has earned Summa Cum Laude scores on the National Latin Exam and has received the National Latin Achievement Award.
Lefkowitz is also an accomplished trumpet player where she is a section leader for the award winning Harrison High School Marching Band. She has performed as a Harrison High School jazz ensemble member and a soloist at the Berklee Jazz Festival and local jazz competitions. She will be performing with the HHS Marching Band at Disneyworld on April 2-April 6.
