Harrison High School senior varsity basketball player Matt Stein was named a Con Ed Award winner. The Con Edison Athlete of the Week recognizes students in Westchester and Putnam schools who excel athletically, academically, and in the areas of leadership and citizenship.
Stein, a captain of the HHS Varsity Boys Basketball team, was an integral part of the success of this year’s team. In his interview with the Journal News, he spoke of his development as a player and subsequently a leader over the past four years.
Harrison coach Gary Chiarella noticed the shift in Stein’s aggressiveness during his junior year and was named the team’s Most Improved Player in that season, as stated in the lohud.com article.

“He’s tough and gritty and is always putting in the extra work. Not sometimes, but always,” Chiarella said. “I’m going to miss his dedication and hard work. You don’t always have players like him as a coach.”
Stein has been accepted to the University of Michigan for the fall of 2014 where he hopes to study business.
