HHS Students Receive Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Harrison High School's Lauren Barbulescu and Elisabeth Eiff recognized for writing pieces

Lauren Barbulescu and Elisabeth Eiff were recognized with Honorable Mention accolades at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards contest. This year’s Gold, Silver and Honorable Mention recipients were recognized for their outstanding work at a ceremony held at Manhattanville College.

Lauren, a student of Phill Dearstyne’s English class, received two Honorable mentions. The first was for a journalism article entitled “Bad News for Bees = Bad News for Us”. Lauren received a second Honorable Mention for her collection of short stories entitled “The Romanian Garden”. Focusing on personal experiences, this collection of essays focuses on her grandmother’s immigration to the United State from Romania.

Elisabeth, a student of Kimberly Grogan’s Creative writing class, received her award for her short story piece entitled “Flash Memoir” - a vivid story of feelings when tragedy knocks at the door.

Both students will be among many Harrison High School writing and journalism students who will be recognized at the Annual Writer’s Among Us breakfast later this spring.
