New Details Emerge on Fatal I-95 Hit-and-Run

Police ID dead tow operator; Crime Stoppers offers reward

UPDATE 3:21 p.m. — New York State Police have released new details about the early-morning, fatal hit-and-run accident on I-95 in Westchester County.

At about 6:18 a.m., Vincent's Towing had received a direct call from a patron's insurance company reporting a disabled vehicle located in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Harrison, police said.

The tow operator, 32-year-old Salvatore R. Brescia, of Yonkers, New York went to assist the disabled motorist.

He was loading the vehicle onto his truck when he was struck by a passing motorist who left the scene, police said.

Brescia was transported to Greenwich Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

New York State Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Brescia’s death. To be eligible from the Crime Stoppers reward, anyone with information is asked to call the NYS Crime Stoppers hot line at 1-866-313-TIPS. Tipsters can also visit the website and leave a confidential tip.

The accident was investigated by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU). Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Hawthorne at (914) 769-2600. All calls can be kept confidential.


UPDATE 11:41 a.m. — New York State Police announced the death of the tow truck operator who was struck by a hit-and-run driver Thursday morning on I-95.

"At approximately 8:15 this morning, the operator of the tow vehicle, a 32-year-old Yonkers man, was pronounced deceased at Greenwich Hospital," state police said.

HARRISON, NY – State Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident which occurred northbound on I-95 near Exit 18B (White Plains/Mamaroneck Avenue), where a tow truck driver was struck at about 6:53 a.m. Thursday.

The driver was transported to Greenwich, Connecticut, with serious physical injuries.

The accident is being reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and is still under investigation.
