Manhattanville School of Business Expands Nonprofit Management Certificate Program
The Nonprofit Management Certificate program was designed for nonprofit leaders, volunteers, practitioners and fundraisers.

HARRISON, NY — The Manhattanville School of Business has been approved to provide continuing professional education credits to Licensed Master Social Workers and Licensed Clinical Social Workers in New York State starting August 2016 through its Nonprofit Management Certificate program.
This is in addition to the Certified Fund Raising Executive credits also offered through the Nonprofit Management Certificate program, college officials said.
The Nonprofit Management Certificate program was designed for nonprofit leaders, board members, volunteers, fundraising professionals, social workers and those interested in the nonprofit sector. College officials said it is unique in that it addresses the business needs of today’s nonprofits, offered in a hybrid format, taught by leading practitioners and conceived by an advisory board of the area’s nonprofit leaders.

It is a common practice in many human service organizations to promote direct service practitioners (including social workers) into management but often there is little or no attention paid to the adjusted sense of identity and the key business skills needed to best serve the agency and clients, Manhattanville officials pointed out.
“In order to thrive as leaders in human service organizations, new managers need to be able to leverage and manage resources, create and influence policy and evaluate outcomes. They need to be able to communicate, advocate, supervise, build relationships and plan for the future” said Rhonna Goodman, Director of the Nonprofit Certificate program. “Each module directly addresses the business skills nonprofit leaders find most valuable.”

All participants in the Nonprofit Management Certificate program will gain an enhanced ability to meet the challenges of the nonprofit world. They will learn the organizational requirements of effective management, and the values and purpose of strong leadership, said Steve Albanese, interim dean of the Manhattanville School of Business.
In addition to earning CPE credits, those who complete all five modules receive a certificate of completion and are eligible to receive advanced standing in the M.S. in Business Leadership degree.
